Is “giving stuff away” a good strategy… really?

I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately. My wife Janna asks me sometimes, “Why do you tell everybody all of your mixing tricks on MixCoach. Why do you give all of your stuff away?

Servez vous !

Go Ahead, take some!

Now, I’m not saying that I’m any better or more generous than anybody else. God knows it’s a struggle sometimes… to teach someone to do something where they could very well be able to do the work instead of me… but the bottom line is this:

I believe in the power of the harvest. I believe that God has plans that I can’t see well enough to get excited about. I believe that for everyone that I’m able to help, God is able to send 100 people to help me (even if I don’t know that I need the help).

I believe that a seed is a seed. you can either eat the seed or plant it and watch the seed grow into more seeds.

I read a few years ago that while excavating an old Egyptian tomb, archaeologists found some 5000 year old seeds in a container. As an experiment, they planted some of the seeds.

Guess What? They grew. 5000 year old seeds grew.

I deal with this “scarcity” mindset every time I try to write a song, a blog post, etc. I say to myself, “this is my best idea, I don’t want to let it go right now”. Or “I can’t just sit down and write a blog post now, what if it rambles on and covers 2 ideas instead of just one. I will have wasted one or both of them”

I challenge YOU to do what I’m challenging myself to do. Throw your seeds. We will eventually find the good ground.

Kevin

    Hey Kev…
You are the man! I still believe in what you’re doing, and what you’re trying to make happen in others. I have definitely benefited from of your “give it away” mentality and I’m forever grateful. You’re an inspiration to many! Who knows… one day maybe I will throw a seed your way!
    Your buddy,
    Tim

Wow, Thank you Tim. I’m sorry I didn’t see this sooner. Very good timing for me.

    Thanks again.
